"Obituary for John Poole John F. Poole passed away on February 15th, 2020 at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Pontiac, MI. He was born on May 2nd, 1944 in Chicago, IL to James and Dorothy Poole, and spent his childhood in Mount Prospect, IL; East Grand Rapids, MI; and Birmingham, MI. John graduated from Michigan State University, where he majored in Mechanical Engineering, though he could speak on most subjects as though he had studied them for years. He retired from Borg Warner, where he dedicated many years of his career. He began working with the company when it was known as Holley Carburetor, and his colleagues referred to him as "The Holley Radical" for his progressive views. He made a home in Royal Oak, MI with his loving wife, Lucia, and their children, Jim and Vicki. After retirement, he and Lucia also lived in Empire, a small town in Northern MI. John loved spending time with his family outdoors, taking them on road trips across the country and camping where he spent time fly-fishing. He had a penchant for ducks, and appreciated watching them from the edge of ponds and carving wood into the shape of them. He traveled to area duck decoy competitions where he could see decoys carved by others. He and Lucia enjoyed traveling by train across the country where they visited many states. They also spent time during the winters cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. He was a lifelong Spartan and avid sports fan. He collected books, and owned enough to open a library. He loved chocolate malts, and enjoyed listening to jazz and classical music. John was predeceased by his parents, James and Dorothy Poole, and his sister Susan Byelich along with her husband Don and their children Michael and Bradley. He is survived by his loving wife Lucia J. Poole, children James Poole (John Higgins) and Vicki Murray (William Kotewa), grandchildren Katie (Kyle) Klass, Mariel Murray, Lindsey Murray, Lauren Murray, great granddaughter Collette, sister Nancy (Phil) Engelhardt, sister-in-law Sue O'Rourke, and nieces and nephews Amy (Tim) Kalbfleish, Phil (Liz) Engelhardt, Paul (Carly) Engelhardt, Kathy O'Rourke (Tim Moriarty), Tim (Joy) O'Rourke, Colleen (Brian) Taylor, TerriAnne (Andy) Gould, Amanda Gladhill, and James Gladhill, and several great-nieces and great-nephews. A memorial service will be held on his birthday, May 2nd to honor his life. Memorial contributions can be made to the American Heart Association."
