John Perry

John Charles Perry, 78 of Harrisville, West Virginia made a peaceful exit on April 24th at his home on Lamb’s Run. John was born to Wilbur Dean Perry and Helen Alicia MacLeod Perry in Grand Rapids, Michigan on October 26th, 1944. He was a Vietnam Veteran, serving from 1965 to 1967.

He married Judith Ann Rau and they moved from Detroit, Michigan to West Virginia in 1975. He is survived by two daughters, Toby Garlitz (John), Ana Shackelford (Joe), three grandchildren Erika, Katrina and Amanda and five great grandchildren as well as his brother-in-law Joseph Howe, several nieces and nephews and a few minions.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife Judi of 53 years, his brother Richard Perry, sister-in-law Alice Perry and his Sister Alice Howe.

He was the owner/broker of Country Path Real Estate for several years before his retirement. He loved fishing, playing poker with his buddies, camping, cooking, and spending time with his family. For several years he enjoyed writing stories for the Ritchie County Library Summer Reading Program. Because he loved writing, he asked to have the following added to his obituary at the time of his passing.

We’ve lived among the wealthy and the destitute, we’ve known poverty and joy. I lived my life the way I wanted, where I wanted, always surrounded by wonderful people. We’ve had adventures far too numerous to report here. My message to you all is this: We’ve enjoyed an amazingly wonderful life and we wish the same for each of you.

John is being cremated and chose not to have a service. His ashes will be scattered along with Judi’s at a few favorite spots.

Raiguel Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements.
